Sunlight Basin Map

Sunlight Basin is well-named: it has better than normal weather due to its location in the rain shadow of the Absarokas.

Hiking: Sunlight Basin sports excellent hiking from trailheads such as Little Sunlight and Dead Indian Trailheads.

Camping: National Forest Campgrounds are located at Dead Indian, Pole, and Little Sunlight. Unimproved campsites, with no facilities, also exist. All camping needs to be done with Grizzly Bears in mind.

Paddling: The Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone provides miider whitewater in its upper stretches, closer to Cooke Pass. The lower sections, know as the "Honeymoon" stretch and "Box Canyon" become increasingly serious, with Box Canyon know for its wild Class 6 rapids.

Wildlife Watching: Sunlight Basin has extensive winter range for many species. Watch out for Grizzlies in summer, spring, and fall!
