Nordic Skiing

Just outside the East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park you will find 25 km of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails winding through a forested winter wonderland. Trails are groomed for both skate and classic skiing by Park County Nordic Ski Association volunteers. All trails are rated beginner to intermediate.

The road from Pahaska Tepee to Yellowstone is open to skiers as is the park road from mid-December to mid-March. Dogs are allowed on the road but not inside the park entrance, and should be leashed at all times.
Backcountry ski possibilities are plentiful on the Shoshone National Forest. Many areas, however, tend to have little snow, rugged terrain, and long approaches. Know avalanche conditions before heading into the backcountry and always be prepared with proper equipment and training.

An additional network of cross-country, backcountry and snowshoe trails exists south of Cody along the Wood River Valley . Contact the Meeteetse Recreation District for snow and trail conditions.
